Cardboard point of sale display stand for for supermarkets
Custom designed point of sale display for small products in Coles Supermarkets

Genesis Retail Displays is a point of sale display design agency in Sydney that helped the brand Mr Fothergill to create an eco friendly solution to display their products in Coles Supermarkets.
Designing effective point of sale displays often requires balancing ambitious product range goals with practical store constraints and this project was no exception.
Tasked with housing over 50 individual product lines within a highly compact footprint, we applied our proven process to deliver a retail ready solution that works for both shoppers and retail stores.
The first step was conducting a thorough in-store assessment to identify the most strategic placement opportunities within the Coles retail environment. This allowed us to understand shopper flow and visibility, ensuring the display would be positioned for maximum engagement.
From there, we moved into layout planning mapping out a logical, easy-to-navigate product flow that simplifies decision-making for customers, especially those new to growing plants from seed.
Multiple prototype formats were developed and tested, each exploring different space configurations and fixture options.
Throughout the process, we worked closely with both the brand team and Coles, incorporating their feedback to refine the final design. The result is a compact but highly functional display that contains everything a customer needs to grow herbs, vegetables, or flowers from seed all within one cohesive, intuitive unit.
Now display in stores, it’s a perfect example of how thoughtful POS design can turn a small footprint into a high-impact brand experience for any brand or type of product.
Design concepts for a point of sale display to be made for Coles Supermarkets
With the criteria provided by Mr Fothergill’s team, we came up with a point of sale design solution that would cater to each of their requirements.
The image above is a sample of our initial design ideas which we sketch to help make all discussions quite practical in the early ideation stages. We don’t make cookie cutter point of sale displays, everything is crafted specifically for the product, brand and locations they will go into.
Small format temporary displays are a critical tool in modern retail environments especially supermarkets, convenience stores, and high-traffic outlets where space is at a premium. These units are designed to stay in-store for extended periods offering brand visibility without the cost and waste of full permanent fixtures.
Cardboard point of sale display prototypes
Once all the design criteria are agreed on we work through these steps;
- Prototyping – We create prototypes that are designed to specifically fit the products while considering size, shape and weight of the items that have to be stored on the unit.
- Size variations – The other aspect that we consider is sizing where we design the display to be scaled to suit different retail shop footprints. Many retailers will nominate small, medium or large stores so the stands therefore need to accomodate the available floor space.
Being able to design a point of sale display to suit any size or shape of space available means any brand can create displays that will satisfy the requirements of any retailer or any given situation.
This is one of the huge benefits of working with a point of sale display design agency compared to buying off the shelf items.
Following design approval from the Mr Fothergill’s team, we collaborated closely with their brand and marketing teams to apply all required messaging in a way that aligned with available display surfaces, while ensuring full compliance with brand guidelines. This stage is critical to maintaining consistency across all touchpoints, particularly in high-traffic retail environments.
The final phase involves logistics and fulfilment planning. Our display systems are engineered for efficient flat-packing and simple in-store assembly, helping to reduce freight costs and streamline execution. Alternatively, we offer a pre-packed, fully assembled option, enabling retail teams to simply position the display on the shop floor—ready for immediate use with minimal effort required.
For brands currently relying on supermarket or grocery POS units that are costly to distribute, difficult to recycle, or underperforming at shelf, this type of solution represents a smarter, more sustainable alternative with high visual impact.
Genesis Retail Displays brings together deep retail insight, structural innovation and a seamless process to make it easy to deliver your commercial goals.
