Point of sale for Playstation controllers
Custom designed point of sale display for Big W retail stores
Genesis Retail Displays is a point of sale display design agency in Sydney that was engaged to turn a cluttered shelf category in retail to be a destination that shoppers don’t miss.
That was the challenge from Sony PlayStation, who needed to lift visibility and simplify the shopping experience in Big W. With game boxes, digital cards, accessories and third-party products all competing for attention, the section had become confusing and hard to navigate.
Our point of sale display solution was a complete in-store rethink;
- The creation of immersive 3D concepts to align to the brand’s vision and show how we could solve their challenge.
- In-store prototyping to refine flow and functionality
- New metal accessory and card panels that clip straight into existing fixtures for fast, cost effective & disruption-free installation.
- Magnetic planogram graphics to make store staff compliance simple and future updates effortless.
- We coordinated distribution of the point of sale to the stores.
- Created clear installation guides.
- Ran a rehearsal setup to ensure a smooth national rollout.
The result?
A cleaner, clearer, more compelling PlayStation presence and a shopping experience that guides customers straight to what they want quickly & easily.
No changes were required to the existing retailer fixtures, which made it easier to secure approvals while it simplified both installation and ongoing management.
The point of sale display concept
When Sony PlayStation approached us, their brief was straightforward:
Create major in-store impact and make the category easier to shop.
Big W’s PlayStation section had become a crowded mix of physical game disc boxes, digital download cards, accessories, and third-party products, leaving customers overwhelmed and unsure where to look.
Therefore our task was to transform that cluttered space into a destination impossible to miss and effortless to navigate when someone did stand in the area.
Step 1.
We began by developing immersive 3D concept visuals, giving Big W a clear view of what the space could look like before a single fixture changed or any approvals were given.
Step 2.
Once preferred layouts were selected, we moved into prototyping and real-world testing, refining the designs directly in-store to ensure ideal traffic flow, intuitive product organisation, and strong visual impact.
This also ensures all the theory translates well in the ‘real world’ before final production starts.
Step 3.
The solution centred on new metal accessory and card panels engineered to clip straight into Big W’s existing fixtures, enabling rapid installation with minimal disruption.
Behind the cards, we introduced magnetic planogram graphics, a deceptively simple upgrade that improves compliance, speeds up resets, and allows seamless updates as new PlayStation titles hit the market.
Step 4.
After manufacturing, we didn’t leave execution to chance: we coordinated distribution to stores, supplied step-by-step instructions for merchandisers, and even conducted a rehearsal installation to ensure a flawless national rollout that would also help maximise in store compliance.
The final result is a cleaner, more cohesive, and far more compelling PlayStation presence, one that streamlines the path to purchase and helps shoppers find exactly what they’re after in seconds.
This project demonstrates how targeted design, thoughtful engineering, and disciplined execution can elevate a retail category and drive stronger commercial outcomes.
Testing point of sale design concepts in store
Depending on the extent of a point of sale design brief our services can include in-store testing where we create mock ups of the concept/idea that has been agreed to and then test them in a real environment.
This ensures all design ideas are tested and creates a additional step in the approvals process which can help minimise mistakes being made.
Once all stakeholders are happy, there is some fine tuning that is done, final costings are completed and then production can begin.
