Genesis Retail Displays is a point of sale display design agency in Sydney that was engaged by 3M.

This brand knew that an important factor in the success of their Command™ range of hooks and tapes was to maximise in store placement by securing additional stock that was visible & located in areas that would compliment its existing shelf space.

The easiest and fastest way to achieve this is using semi-permanent shipper-style point of sale displays that are purpose-built to support short to medium term promotional activity.

Compared to the cost and lead time associated with purchasing end caps or investing in permanent shelving, semi-permanent cardboard displays offer a far more commercially efficient solution as they allow brands to secure high-impact floor space at a lower cost, making them ideal for promotional windows, seasonal pushes, or range expansion campaigns without losing long-term fixture commitments.

We helped 3M successfully get new point of sale displays out to 160 Officeworks stores nationwide. We managed the production and delivery to ensure consistency, quality, and on-time execution across the entire store network.

To date there has been 100% compliance with all displays installed on the shop floors achieving full national coverage. This was achieved with not only great design but simple to manage packaging & logistics that made it easy for local store staff to set up the displays quickly.

The cardboard point of sale display design concept

In their design brief they placed equal value to placement flexibility. Unlike fixed shelving, shipper stands can be positioned in multiple locations throughout a store—such as action alleys, category adjacencies, or high-traffic promotional zones—working in tandem with existing shelf space rather than replacing it.

This creates additional points of purchase while reinforcing the main bay, improving visibility and recall for shoppers as they move through the store.

We took that into consideration when designing this point of sale display and instead of creating a typically ‘one sided’ cardboard point of sale stand, we created a unique four sided execution.

The benefit?

Maximum visibility no matter where it was placed in the store as foot traffic would see it no matter what direction they were walking from.

Each side of the tower was carefully zoned to showcase the different Command™ product lines, ensuring clear navigation and intuitive product selection for customers.

The display design incorporated:

  • Generous branded header panels to reinforce Command™ brand recognition

  • Large educational panels explaining product benefits and usage

  • High-capacity hanging systems to accommodate the required stock levels

  • A robust yet lightweight construction suitable for national rollout and easy installation

So from a performance perspective these additional points of purchase play a critical role in improving sell-through rates.

By intercepting shoppers outside the core category, the display attracts customers who may not have entered Officeworks specifically to purchase hooks or home organisation products. The strong visual cue, combined with clear education and easy access to product, creates the impetus for impulse consideration and purchase.

In this way, the Command™ tower not only supports the existing range but actively expands the buying audience demonstrating how well designed, semi-permanent POS can drive incremental sales while remaining cost-effective, flexible, and retail-friendly.

Cardboard point of sale displays set up in Officeworks

Semi-permanent cardboard shipper stands offer a strong commercial alternative to permanent fixtures or paid end caps, delivering high impact at a lower cost and faster rollout.

Best of all they can be designed in a wide range of cardboard materials to cater to products that might weigh less than 1kg or larger bulkier items that are heavier. Our design team takes all of that into consideration to ensure anything we create not only looks great but is durable and safe.

So this four-sided tower was designed to sit in multiple high-traffic areas, complementing existing shelf space and creating additional points of purchase throughout the store. That matters because when shoppers encounter a product outside the category aisle, it often triggers consideration they didn’t arrive in-store planning to make.

This is one of the benefits you get when you work closely with a point of sale designer like Genesis Retail Displays – we consider every aspect of your brief & the problem you are trying to solve – then create something that suits your brand, product & goals.

You can’t get that with off the shelf or price list based point of sale display items.

When this extra effort is put into solving product point of sale solutions the result is improved sell-through driven by visibility, education, and convenience, well-designed semi-permanent POS doesn’t just support shelf performance, it actively grows your buying audience.

This project demonstrates Genesis Retail Displays’ ability to design intelligent, retail-ready solutions from concept through to execution that balances brand storytelling, product functionality and the practical demands of large-scale Australian retail environments.
